Through Kawa-Kete's vision we aim to create a nationwide movement that brings Māori traditions and practices back into the heart of Aotearoa's urban environment. To revitalise a deeper connection with the land, the plants, and Māori culture, we aspire to strengthen cultural identity, promote environmental awareness, and encourage a sense of pride and belonging among all New Zealanders.
Ackowledgements
In honouring the rich heritage and traditional wisdom of the Māori culture, I wish to acknowledge Māori practices, particularly in our utilisation of the native Kawakawa plant. Maori people have an ancient and deep spiritual connection to the when and its fauna, and the Kawakawa, with its medicinal properties and cultural significance, holds a special place within their traditions. It is with the utmost respect that we are not here to appropriate Māori practices, but yet learn from this and respect it along the way.
